Every dollar you can save when you travel is a dollar you can spend in your travels! This is why discount airfares should be such a major focus in planning your next holiday. Planning ahead, and being willing to change your travel dates and times give you the best chance of snapping up huge discount airfares, as most airlines reduce rates on certain routes at certain times of the year, as well as certain time frames before the flight is set to leave.
Some airlines see booking late as a possible sign of desperation and are not willing to reduce their published rates for travel and if the destination is popular the rates most likely will not be cut. However, as the date of departure approaches, many airlines are willing to offer discount airfares to fill the plane instead of having it take off with fewer passengers. Better to sell seats for cheap than get nothing for empty ones!
Airline travel is one of the modes of transportation that rarely cancels a trip due to lack of passengers. Once a schedule is established, the flight will generally proceed even if very few tickets have been sold due to the scheduling of the plane either before or after that particular leg of the flight.
